The flowers of this giant bulb are produced on 4- to 5-foot stalks and open in the evening hours. The flowers of Crinum amabile produce a very heavy fragrance to attract pollinators such as moths.
Plants that bloom at night are classified as vespertine plants. Most are fragrant and are white in color to make the flowers easier to find in the night by pollinators.
The leaves of C. amabile can reach 6 feet in length, and entire plants can grow up to 10 feet tall at maturity.
